Why the program is run over 5 sessions, and why don’t we offer the program over an intensive full weekend like some other childbirth education courses?
We understand that expecting couples are busier than ever and time is precious, so being offered to do your childbirth classes over a quick weekend may seem convenient and efficient (until you really understand that a quick intensive course is NOT the best option).
We also know that couples want the best outcomes for themselves and their babies, and want value for their investment. There are so many benefits to couples when spreading the course out, and doing a comprehensive course like this over a full weekend is often counterproductive, overwhelming and ineffective.
There is no magic wand with HypnoBirthing. It’s not that it works for some people and not for others. The magic is in the cleverly designed format, techniques and practice set out by Marie Mongan our Founder. Doing the program over 5 sessions and following the practice recommendations will set you up for success and the most positive birth, no matter what turn your birthing takes.
Self-hypnosis and deep relaxation are very effective birthing techniques. They are acquired skills that need to be learned gradually and practiced between sessions. This ensures that you have the time to develop the conditioned responses that make HypnoBirthing The Mongan Method so successful. There is no short cut, and this why our program is taught in five, 2 ½ hour sessions.
Learning HypnoBirthing over a day or weekend in a compacted form is not as effective in ensuring that parents are able to absorb and remember the various techniques and the comprehensive birth education that they learn in class. The brain and body memory have a limited learning capacity, especially in pregnancy! Allowing time between classes helps parents to better assimilate what they’ve learned from the class before and to practice together during the week. Then, when they return on the following week, they are able to discuss, correct, and improve their practice experience and any techniques they may not have fully understood.
This class schedule also allows the time to explore your feelings, to relax with your partner, to resolve and release any anxieties that may arise, and to become acquainted with your baby through pre-birth parenting. We like to work with you personally and to follow your progress so that we can work with you and prepare you to be ready, relaxed, and confident as you approach the birth of your baby.”
We believe that weekend courses really benefit a practitioners bank balance, but isn’t the best for expectant parents. It may seem like an easy alternative to smash it out in 1 weekend, but it isn’t an effective format for parents and babies. Parenting is a huge commitment, so spending this time over 5 sessions bonding together and learning this program will hold you in good stead for parenting.
